About Walking the High Line:
This High Line is considered a garden roof park and is a fully sustainable green public space that rests 30 feet above street level on a 1½ mile stretch of repurposed railroad track. Maintained by the Friends of the High Line, and designed and completed in stages, the park is filled with some 210 species of meadow plants, grasses, coneflowers, smoke bush, birch trees and sumac.
The park features a play area with beams and benches. The structure is called the Pershing Beams and is a local reference point for meeting with friends and family. This space holds a number benches and is great for picnicking or a nice outdoor lunch break.
More than 5 million people visit the park annually. Don’t miss out on some of the exciting NY Activities that you’ll find as you Walk the High Line. Close to the Chelsea Piers, the High Line boasts a number of places to grab a drink or a bite to eat all while enjoying lovely views of the New York skyline and the Hudson River.
The High Line host Tia Chi from June until September. The High Line is also the site of popular Events, such as the annual Velvet Gloves Gentleman’s Boxing match. Nighttime stargazing, hosted by the Amateur Astronomers Association, is another popular way to enjoy this NY Attraction.
