No one puts on a parade quite like New York City, and the St. Patrick’s Day parade is no exception!
About the St. Patrick’s Day Parade:
When you think of NYC parades, the Thanksgiving Day parade is probably the first thing to come to mind The St. Patrick’s Day parade, however, has its own claims to fame. It’s the largest such parade in the entire country, and draws more than 2 million spectators!
This NYC Event has taken place every year since 1762, making it the 2nd oldest St. Patrick’s Day parade in the country. Many visitors descend on the city just to attend this event. In New York City, everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day!
More than 250,000 participate in the parade, and the 2 million attendees who watch the parade live create sea of green along 5th Avenue. It’s exciting to attend in person, but if you’re not much for crowds, you can also watch on TV as the event is broadcast live.
If you want a great spot to watch in person, you’ll have to arrive early! Attendees arrive hours before the start of the parade to score one of the coveted front-row spots. It’s important to note that while many enjoy indulging in a pint or two on St. Patrick’s Day, no public drinking is allowed in NYC, and this law is strictly enforced. But don’t worry! There are plenty of pubs near the parade route where you can enjoy a drink after the parade!
