About the Cathedral of St. John:
The Cathedral of St. John is one of the favorite NY Attractions for photographers who love to capture some of the City’s finest architectural examples. The Cathedral was built in the late 19th century and is an example of the Gothic Revival style.
The building features a huge free-standing dome. This 601-foot cathedral is a world-record holder, and it is known around the world. With its stained glass window imagery, lovely bell towers and a nave, the structure provides a detailed glimpse at the Gothic architectural style. The building is surrounded by beautiful gardens, and visitors are able to explore both the buildings and the grounds.
This is still very much an active church, and the congregation does much more than just gather on Sundays to worship. This church is extremely active in the community, and they offer a variety of programs to help those who are in need. Their social programs include recovery programs, screening for food stamps, services for the homeless, and much more.
Even though the congregation is hard at work, there is still plenty of time to visit this NY Attraction. Tours of the church and the grounds are offered each day. The admission price helps to fund their many community outreach programs.
