The Frick Collection | Attractions in NYC
The Frick Collection is a popular Attraction in NYC that gives guests at our Manhattan Hotel a chance to browse an impressive art collection in a former Gilded Age mansion.
The Frick Collection might not be as well-known as some other Attractions in NYC, but it one that you won’t want to miss.
About The Frick Collection:
The Frick Collection includes European masterpieces, sculptures, fine 18th-century French furniture, and much more. And all of this is housed in a former Gilded Age mansion that was once home to the Frick family.
Henry Frick was a serious art collector, and many of the pieces now on display at this Attraction in New York were curated by him and hung in this building when it was still his family home. As you walk through the Frick Collection, you will get a sense of what life may have been like for a family living in a mansion during this time. The building is as much as part of the experience of visiting this Attraction as the collection of art and objects.
Frick had this home built and lived in it until his death in 1919. In his will, he left the house, furniture, art, and other objects to be used as a museum. When his wife Adelaide died in 1931, the work to turn this mansion from home to museum began. It opened in 1935.
The impressive collection is housed in six galleries. You may find it interesting that some of the paintings are arranged just as they were when the Frick family lived in the mansion. In addition to the permanent collection, The Frick also hosts a number of special events and exhibitions. You can see a list of current events on the Attraction’s website.
