About the Louis Armstrong Museum:
Even those who aren’t serious fans of jazz music know the name Louis Armstrong. His voice is instantly recognizable, and his music is still enjoyed by people of all ages.
For 28 years, Armstrong lived in what is now the Louis Armstrong Museum. One thing that is amazing about a visit to this NY Attraction is that it gives visitors the chance to see that fame and money didn’t cause Armstrong to move away from the neighborhood that had long been his home. Instead, he continued to live a modest life with his family.
The Louis Armstrong House Museum, which is a National Historic Landmark, opened in 1993. It is set up to look just as it would have looked when Armstrong lived in the home. Some of the furniture and other items on display even belonged to the Armstrongs.
The Armstrongs loved to have friends over. During one such gathering, Armstrong took out his trumpet and played some music for his guests. Happily, that impromptu moment was caught on tape, so visitors to this NY Attraction can hear the music from that night.
One exciting artifact is a life mask of Armstrong. The mask was added to the Museum’s collection in 2013 as part of the celebration of the Museum’s 10th anniversary.
