About Fette Sau:
When you’re wondering What to do in NYC, consider visiting some of the NY Restaurants that might not get as much attention as others. One such spot is Fette Sau. This NYC Barbecue joint is popular with locals, and people come from all over the City to eat the fabulous dry-rubbed barbecue.
Every person who is seriously into barbecue has their own idea about the proper way to prepare the meat. At Fette Sau that means using a blend of locally-sourced woods including cherry, maple, red oak, and white oak, using a dry rub, and adding no sauce during while the meat is cooking. Some think it’s odd to leave out the sauce, but the owners of this NYC Barbecue spot feel the meat can stand on its own. They do, however, offer sauces alongside their dishes.
Fette Sau means “fat pig” in German, and there is plenty of pig on the menu along with flank steak, leg of lamb, and much more. The head chef, Matt Lang, takes his meat very seriously, and his smoker, fueled by both gas and wood, can smoke up to 500 pounds at a time.
Fette Sau has an industrial vibe, and all of the meat is served on butcher paper furthering the feeling that this Dining spot isn’t about showy presentations, but it’s all about the meat. The drink list seems like what you might find on a visit to the parts of the country more known for barbecue. You’ll find lots of bourbon and whiskey along with a selection of craft beer, including a few locally brewed options.
Our New York City Hotel is located near many of the City’s top Dining spots. While our Manhattan location isn’t exactly right next door to this Brooklyn Restaurant, many of our guests feel a visit is well worth the short trip to Williamsburg.
